Grid Ireland

Project Name: Grid Ireland

Initiation Date: 09/2005

Description:

The aim of GRID Ireland is to provide a research platform for scientists allowing them to construct virtual organisations removing the boundaries of their home institutes. It operates in support of research projects such as Cosmogrid, which involves Grid computing across many scientific disciplines.

The infrastructure consists of 17 Grid gateways which connect sites (Universities, Colleges, Research Insitutions) to the Grid, allowing local users access to computing resources throughout Ireland and worldwide. National services such as resource brokerage, virtual organisation management, data replica management a software repository are also provided, making Grid-Ireland a self-sufficient Grid.
HEAnet is a partner in Cosmogrid and works with Grid Ireland in building the infrastructure of Grid gateways. We are working closely with Grid Ireland to provide the optimum service to Grid researchers, contributing skills and experience in systems and network engineering and operations.
