(Part II - Getting the most from your router)
The functionality of the router, which connects your organisation to the outside world, falls well short of that provided by a firewall or an intrusion detection system. Nonetheless, there are still may things that can and should be done with it to secure and enhance your network access.

Henry O'Keeffe
, MSc, is the Systems and Network Engineering Manager, in the Computer Centre, UCC http://www.ucc.ie/services/compcent/ . He has worked for over 20 years in the IT industry. From the mid 1980s until it's demise in 1997, he was active in the HEAnet Technical Working Group. Prior to and parallel to that, he was involved via UCC with BITNET/EARN. http://www.cren.net/cren/cren-hist-fut.html

His primary degree was a B.Sc.(hons) in Mathematical Science (UCC 1978) and was followed by an Masters in Applied Statistics and Computer Science

At the weekends, when not on the mountains, he is pursuing a Phd in Mathematics. His interest is Algebra with applications to Systems Theory and Error-correcting codes. The docotorate is being supervised by Prof. P. Fitzpatrick. http://maths.ucc.ie/staff/fitzpatrickp/pubs.html
