Recent Virus outbreaks have proved that a correctly segmented network will prevent the spread of virus and prevent broadcast storms.

If possible have a separate multimedia VLAN.
Watch the CPU utilisation of router.
A healthy network should have less than 100 broadcast packets per second.
Check using a network traffic and protocol analyzer tool.
