The Higher Education
Authority is the planning and development body for higher education
in Ireland. It was set up on an ad hoc basis in 1968, and was given
statutory powers in the Higher Education Authority Act 1971.
The HEA has wide advisory powers throughout the whole of the third-level
education sector. In addition it is the funding authority for the
universities and a number of designated institutions.

DANTE (Delivering
Advanced Network Technology across Europe) was set up by the national
research and education networks (NRENs) in Europe to provide an
operational centre to run network services for its members.
DANTE has been the lead partner, along with its member NRENs, in
a succession of leading edge pan-European networks. The most recent
implementation of this service is Géant, widely acclaimed
as a ground-breaking achievement in multi-national, multi-gigabit
internetworking. DANTE also provides support for research and development
projects on Géant, and also provides a number of ancillary

(VO) in Ireland is for Grid-enabled Computational Physics of Natural
Phenomena, alternatively known as CosmoGrid. This VO is led
