Billy Glynn
Team Leader Application Support and Development Technical Services, IE Domain Registry Ltd

Bio

Billy Glynn is responsible for Application Support and Development activities in the IE Domain Registry Limited (IEDR), the company which operates and manages dot IE – the world’s second safest country code top-level domain. During his nine year career at the company Billy has been instrumental in the automation of mission-critical business systems and registration services for the local Internet community. In particular, he led the development of secure automated interfaces for accredited registrars, which was a major enabler of the volume growth of the .ie namespace over that period, and the development of a Java-based Core Registry System (CRS), launched in 2009. He was responsible for the deployment of an IPv6 nameserver for the .ie namespace in 2004, making IEDR one of the first European registries to do so.

Billy has recently completed an M.Sc MIS in Trinity College Dublin (TCD), and his thesis examined DNS Security Extensions (DNSSEC) in an Irish context. Billy recently presented at IRISSCON 2010 on this topic, and he will share more granular detail on the results of the DNS risk research he has undertaken throughout 2010, as part of his thesis. Additionally, his presentation will pay particular attention to the challenges and opportunities related to the deployment of DNSSEC in Ireland. His recommendations on the multi-stakeholder approach required will no doubt be of interest to HEAnet Conference 2010 participants.
