Glenn Wearen joined HEAnet in 2007 with responsibility for federated access. Prior to joining HEAnet, Glenn held a number of positions focusing on single-sign-on, federated access, and identity lifecycle management with HP, Baltimore Technologies and Fidelity Investments.

Glenn holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Applications (Software Engineering) from DCU and is an ISC2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and ICS Certified Data Protection Practitioner.

Bio

Dr. Javed I. Khan is a professor of Computer Science at Kent State University, Ohio. Khan’s research team specializes in applying multi-area expertise in cross-cutting problems in networking and communication. His research has been funded by US Defense Advanced Project Agency, National Science Foundation, State of Ohio and NASA. He has also worked at NASA for space communication team and Wright Patterson Air Force Research Lab (WP-AFRL) with Human Effectiveness Division. Dr. Khan is member of ACM, IEEE, and Internet Society. He has first-authored 100+ reviewed publications. He has served as editor for 100+ journal articles in his area, in national panel on next generation communications.

Besides being an active researcher and educator, Dr. Khan is passionately active in international educational technology collaboration. He served as the area expert in the Fulbright National Roster of experts as Senior Specialist on high performance education networking and digital divide. He has served as advisors to REN initiatives in countries including Malaysia, Pakistan, Nigeria and Bangladesh. Dr. Khan has received his PhD from University of Hawaii at Manoa and B.Sc. from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) and a Past Open Grants Fellow at East West Center at Hawaii. Michael Foley is a distance learning specialist with the World Bank in Washington DC, where he helped establish the Global Development Learning Network (GDLN), an international partnership dedicated to the sharing of development knowledge through the use of ICTs. Prior to joining the World Bank in 1997, Michael was the founder and first Director of the Audio Visual Centre at University College Dublin. The Centre pioneered new learning services using television, videoconferencing, cable TV, satellite broadcasting, and web based tools, and participated in many European Commission funded projects. His main focus now is the facilitation of the establishment and capacity building of Research and Education Networks in developing countries.

Bio

Mike Norris has been involved in internetworking for over 25 years, since the early days of wide-area networking between Irish universities. In the late 1980s, he was hostmaster for the top-level IE domain. A founder member of INEX, he was chairman of the Irish Internet Neutral Exchange from 1999 to 2005. As chief technical officer of HEAnet he manages the provision of technical services to clients, with over 150,000 end users in 50+ Irish education and research institutions. He works with clients to develop and deliver the best and most cost-effective solutions for their growing and complex requirements.

Bio

Janusz Ulanowski joined HEAnet in 2008 as a Middleware Engineer on the Edugate project. Janusz has held posts with Wirtualna Polska, once Poland's leading web portal and OpenApp, where Janusz was part of the HSE's award winning Health Atlas Project. Since joining HEAnet Janusz has developed expertise in the area of integrating web applications with Edugate and the customisation of identity provider services.

Bio

Lukasz joined UCD IT Services in 2004 and has a background in networks and systems administration. Currently, in his capacity as Senior Research IT Specialist, Lukasz is responsible for delivery of HPC and virtualization services to the wider research community in UCD. His current focus is on green computing and "cloud bursting" of HPC resources.

Louis Twomey is a Senior Network Engineer in HEAnet's Managed Network Services team where one of his tasks has been to explore proper working practices when dealing with fibre. Prior to joining HEAnet he spent several years working on IT projects in the research and academic community, followed by over 10 years as a networking and security professional with Kerna Communications Ltd.

Bio

Aidan Carty joined HEAnet in 2006 as their Security Expert. He is primarily involved in the internal and external security of HEAnet along with providing security advice to HEAnet's clients. Prior to joining HEAnet Aidan spent 9 years working for Entropy Ltd as a Security Engineer. Aidan is also a CISSP, CCSP, CCSE+I and an ISO 27001 Lead Auditor.
