Support for HEAnet Client Research

e-INIS

HEAnet is a partner in e-INIS(e-Irish National Infra-Structure). e-INIS will leverage the existing HEAnet national infrastructure to create a virtual infrastructure dedicated to the e-INIS project. The e-INIS virtual network infrastructure has been operational since December 2009.

WiMAX trials

As part of the HEAnet wireless strategy, HEAnet is working with several of HEAnet's clients on mobile WiMAX testbeds and demonstration. Trials have been completed at NUIM, DCU, AIT and Galway Bay.

TSSG remote storage

HEAnet and TSSG have been investigating high availability remote storage technologies using a dedicated 10GE link from TSSG to the HEAnet data center in Servcentric in Dublin. Initial trials are ongoing with iSCSI and NFS.

Sensor Networks

HEAnet would welcome interest from HEAnet clients in the area of sensor networks. HEAnet would like to investigate how sensor networks could be interconnected with the existing HEAnet network and to investigate how the existing HEAnet network could facilitate the development of sensor network research within the Irish academia. Recently HEAnet in cooporation with Intel and the Marine Institute have successully tested wireless sensors in Galway Bay.
