Schools 100 Mbit/s Programme to be Extended to All Post-Primary Schools

HEAnet Logo DCENR have released a post-budget press release confirming the extension of the Schools 100 Mbit/s Programme to all post-primary schools across Ireland. The programme will reach all post-primary schools over the period 2012-2014. http://www.dcenr.gov.ie/Press+Releases/Minister+Rabbitte+provides+detail+of+DCENR+2012+budget.htm

Minister Rabbitte commented:

"I am especially pleased that the Government has approved the roll-out of high speed broadband to all the second level schools of the nation. Over the coming years this initiative will make a considerable contribution to new teaching methods, boost learning opportunities for all students including those with learning difficulties and ultimately make a major contribution to competitiveness for the workforce of the future."

This announcement represents very good news for Ireland's post-primary schools and HEAnet, whose involvement in this programme is on foot of delivering a high level of service to schools since the inception of the Schools Network in 2005.
