Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as Early Stage Researcher (PhD candidate) in bioinformatics/immunoinformatics at the National University of Ireland, Galway. This position is funded under the EU Marie Curie Initial Training Networks

 

QUANTI: (http://www1.maths.leeds.ac.uk/applied/QUANTI/) is a Marie Curie International Training Network with the objective of training a new generation of quantitative immunologists, who will be able to address challenges arising in Systems Immunology. QUANTI will apply state-of-the-art technologies and immunology expertise to generate new insights into immunological processes at all levels of organisation.

 

Job Description:

The successful candidate will register as a PhD student in bioinformatics at National University of Ireland Galway, under the primary supervision of Prof. Cathal Seoighe (http://www.maths.nuigalway.ie/~cathal/). (S)he will undertake research as part of the QUANTI network (specifically relating to the evaluation of CD8+ T cell numbers and repertoires) and will participate in training activities of the network. The research project will involve collaboration with members of the network, including participating in research visits to other member institutions.

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have an excellent academic track record. Applicants with undergraduate or masters level qualifications in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, statistics or in the molecular life sciences who can demonstrate computational and quantitative aptitude, will be considered. Candidates should have excellent communication and organizational skills, be highly motivated and passionate about scientific research and have excellent interpersonal skills. To ensure the European character of an ITN project, applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Ireland for more than 12 months in the last 3 years immediately prior to the date of selection.
