The National University of Ireland, Galway, is seeking outstanding candidates for a fixed-term 12 month Research Fellow contract position in Linked Stream Processing and Infrastructures. This position will be within the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI).  The National University of Ireland, Galway is home to more than 15,000 students across five Colleges with highly active agendas in teaching and research.  The University recently reaffirmed its research priorities and this placed Information and Communications Technology as one of its leading priorities.  The Digital Enterprise Research Institute is a key focus of the ICT research at the university.

The Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), Galway, Ireland was founded in 2003 following the granting of funds under the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) CSET initiative (Centres for Science, Engineering and Technology). DERI is dedicated to research aimed at enabling Networked Knowledge using Semantic Web technologies. DERI is one of the leading research institutes in the world in its domain and has attracted over €60 million in direct research funding since 2003, together with significant industry involvement.

For DERI's linked stream processing infrastructure we are looking for a development team leader to consolidate the current code base and lead the architecture and implementation of the next generation of our integrated stream processing system. As well as long-term expertise in software development and software project management, this role also requires demonstrated excellence in the relevant research domains of linked stream processing, RDF databases, distributed systems and cloud. The role, which reports to the Vice-Director of DERI, requires active and direct engagement with researchers and research contributions.

Essential Skills:

·         A PhD in computer science

·         More than 6 years of software project management experience

·         Demonstrated research excellence of over 4 years in linked stream processing, RDF databases, distributed systems and cloud

·         Significant experience in architectural design and integration of our various systems (at least 2 years of experience with CQELS, LSM, and SSC)

·         More than 3 years development experience for mobile platforms (experience with our RDF-on-the-go system is a plus)

·         Definition and maintenance of development infrastructures (code repositories, documentation, developer communities, etc.)

·         Active lead implementation and excellent coding skills (Java, Python, RDF and SPARQL)

·         Excellent team player

·         Ability to lead and motivate a team of skilled developers

·         Good communication skills

Salary: €58,991 per annum. (Public sector pay policy pertaining to new entrants will apply)
