Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a two-year fixed term contract position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Behavioural Neuroscience based at the National University of Ireland, Galway.  The successful candidate will work on a research programme examining the neurobiology of the opioid system in depression and antidepressant action using preclinical models. 

 

The position is funded by an Industry-Academia collaborative grant between the disciplines of Pharmacology and Physiology, The Galway Neuroscience Centre, NUI Galway (http://ncbes.eurhost.net/neuroscience.aspx) and an industry partner for a period of 24 months and is available on a full-time basis.  The successful applicant will be employed and based full time at the National University of Ireland, Galway.

 

Essential Qualifications: Applicants must have completed, or be close to completion of, a PhD in Behavioural  Neuroscience and have a keen interest in pursuing pre-clinical research into depression and antidepressant mechanisms of action.

 

Desirable Qualifications: The ideal candidates will have significant experience in one or more of the following: preclinical models of depression; behavioural testing, stereotactic surgery; neurochemistry; RT-qPCR; ELISA; radioligand binding; Western immunoblotting; immunohistochemistry; Peer-reviewed publications in areas of relevance to the project are also desirable.

 

Start date:  September 2013            

 

Starting salary:  €38,286 - €43,393 (Public Sector rules pertaining to new entrants to the public service will apply)
