The Next Generation Network Programme consists of three implementation projects to achieve Enhanced Network Resilience.
1) The Optical Dublin Core Ring upgrade project has added an additional optical node at second PoP sites in DCU, TCD and UCD and was successfully completed in July 2013.
2) The installation and commissioning of a new Optical National Backbone solution commenced in October at two PoPs in each regional area and has been completed in Dec 2013.
3) An Optical Resilience Configuration Review project.
With the completion of both projects HEAnet will have two fully resilient PoPs in each of the regional metro areas for the first time, as well as three new additional metro PoPs in the Dublin area. These new locations offer opportunities to review and optimise from where connectivity is provided to clients either offering cost savings or opportunities to enhance the resilience service provided to these clients. The Optical Resilience Configuration Review project will complete such activities in first half of 2014.
