Meet our speakers

Roberto Sabatino
 
Roberto joined HEAnet in November 2020 as Research Engagement Officer, with the goal to build impactful relationships between HEAnet and researchers in Ireland across all scientific sectors. He previously worked at GEANT where he held a similar role at the pan-European level, after many years in more technical roles. Roberto graduated from the University of Turin with a Laurea in Computer Science.

Goar Sánchez

Goar is the National Service Programme Manager and EuroCC Academic Flagship Leader in ICHEC. His primary role is managing the ICHEC national service team providing with access to HPC facilities and support to Irish researchers enabling their investigations. He is also an expert in computational chemistry focused on non-covalent interactions and electron density based tools, collaborating with both national (UCD, TCD, TU Dublin) and international (IQM-CSIC, UAM) groups. Goar has a BSc in Chemistry and a PhD in computational and theoretical chemistry from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Alastair McKinstry

Alastair is an Environmental Programme Manager in ICHEC. He works on performance optimisation of numerical codes, in particular climate codes, and the management of large datasets for climate use.  With a background in Physics, Alastair worked in High Performance computing and in Digital, Compaq and was Principal Engineer in  the Database applications in Oracle.

Federico Fierli
 
Federico is a EUMETSAT Officer since 2019 as an expert in atmospheric dynamics, chemistry, communicates and teach many aspects of satellite data and applications to a wide range of Users. Since 2002 he is a Senior Scientist at the National Research Council, Italy (now on-leave) and Associate Professor of Climate Physics, at the University of Rome. Federico completed PhD at Paris University and European Space Agency Fellowship.

Federica Foglini
 
Federica is marine data scientists at the Institute of Marine science (CNR-ISMAR) in Bologna. She obtained her degree in Geology at the University of Bologna and Msc in GIS and Remote Sensing at Greenwich University, London. She participated in more than 20 oceanographic cruises as supervisor of geophysical data acquisition and processing. She is a co-author of several international scientific papers and she wrote several technical reports about the implementation and design of Marine Geodatabase, GIS mapping and multi beam bathymetry processing. 

Chris Atherton
 
Chris is a Senior Research Engagement Officer at GÉANT, an e-infrastructure organisation providing cutting-edge pan-European networking, and trust and identity services exclusively for the research and education community.  His role focuses on supporting International user communities and organisations, as well as identifying new solutions to specific research requirements. Chris has over 10 years’ experience working in the IT and Space industry prior to joining GÉANT and holds a BSc (Hons) in Computer Networks and Security.
