HEAnet, as the lead organisation for the Sonraí National Open Research Fund 2025 Project, is proud to support the launch of a new microcredential, Introduction to Data Stewardship (DH5001), at University College Cork. This initiative reflects HEAnet’s ongoing commitment to advancing Ireland’s open research agenda and strengthening the infrastructure and skills required for responsible data management.
HEAnet’s Research and Engagement Officer, Jenny O’Neill, has played a pivotal role in the project, providing strategic guidance and championing Data Stewardship across the Irish research ecosystem. Her involvement has been instrumental in ensuring that the microcredential addresses the practical needs of researchers and data professionals while promoting best-practice standards in responsible and secure data management.
Data stewardship continues to expand in importance as a foundational element of open research, underpinning transparency, security, ethical practice, and the long-term value of research data. Strengthening national competencies in this area is essential as Ireland aligns with evolving European and global expectations around responsible research.
