Dr Niamh Hynes

Niamh Hynes is a vascular surgeon with advanced fellowship training in aortic surgery. Her clinical practice is at Galway Clinic and her academic work is under taken at the University of Galway where she works with Insight, the SFI centre for Data Analytics and CÚRAM, the SFI centre for Medical Devices. She has integrated research into her clinical practice throughout her career and has published more than 180 peer-reviewed research papers and received over €6million in research funding.

She is very experienced in multidisciplinary research and works with colleagues in the fields of biomedical engineering, computer science, bioinformatics, genetics, materials science, medical physics, radiology and physiology. Her areas of interest are aortic and carotid disease and is involved in a number of projects on multi-scale modelling, advanced MRI sequence generation, computational modelling and medical device design. She has extensive experience with the MedTech industry and works with a number of companies at all levels from start-up to multinationals.
