IRLDAT: Shaping the Future of Research Data - Designing a National infrastructure for Active Data-driven research

Speakers

Barry O'Sullivan - UCC
Niall Wilson - Irish Centre for High-End Computing

IRLDAT is a currently active pilot project (one of 6 projects funded through the National Action Plan for Open Research by NORF) which aims to understand the requirements of researchers working with active datasets. It has implemented a pilot service to support this activity and will ultimately develop a formal proposal for a future production service. This is a collaborative project involving a significant number of Irish HEIs both as service providers and as end users.

This presentation will provide an overview and introduction to the requirements of active data, the structure and aims of the pilot and a mid-term report on the progress and findings of the project based on its first year of activity. In particular, the suite of technologies and services offered by EUDAT (one of the partners) will be described, as well as the technical architecture deployed for the pilot IRLDAT federated active date store. Finally, a selection of case studies from some of the participating researchers will be presented to demonstrate some of the benefits and lessons learned so far
