This short presentation outlines key findings of the INDEx Survey, undertaken in autumn 2019 to explore the digital experiences of students and staff who teach in Irish higher education.

Findings from 25.5K students and 4.5K staff who teach at 32 institutions provide an important pre-pandemic benchmark of the digital expectations, engagement and experience.

Key issues include access to reliable WiFi, quality of institutional digital provision (software, hardware, learning environment), access to devices on long-term loan, and data privacy, among others. INDEx findings (see www.teachingandlearning.ie/index) provide an evidence base which can facilitate the ongoing collaborative development of institutional and national digital infrastructure strategies.
