HEAnet’s ICT Security Services team are pleased to invite ICT Security Services clients to our upcoming workshop “Cybersecurity Threats Facing the Educational Sector: Trends and Countermeasures.”
In this workshop, clients will gain valuable insights into the latest cyber threats impacting educational institutions and discover practical strategies to safeguard their organisations. Through interactive sessions, case studies, and expert-led discussions, clients will leave equipped with the knowledge to enhance their institution’s cybersecurity posture.
Location: Hybrid Event. In-person at the HEAnet Office, Dublin 1 or via Microsoft Teams Meeting
Clients attending in-person are invited to join us for lunch at the end of the event.
A Microsoft Teams Meeting link to attend the event will be issued to those who have registered to attend via Microsoft Teams closer to the time of the event.

Presentation will cover: · Overview of cybersecurity in the education sector, containing key data, trends, statistics, and unique cybersecurity challenges educational institutions face. · Common cyber threats in the education sector, such as, but not limited to, phishing attacks, ransomware, data breaches, research theft, insider threats, DDos attacks, and more. 11:00 – 11:15 | Case Studies of Notable Cyber Incidents
Presentation will cover: · Case studies covering phishing attacks, ransomware attacks and data breaches at educational institutions/universities, and key takeaways covering lessons learned from these incidents. HEAnet |
11:15 – 11:30 | Emerging Trends in Cyber Threats
Presentation will cover: · Remote learning vulnerabilities in online education platforms, risks associated with connected IoT devices on campus, risks from third-party vendors and partners, and more. HEAnet |

11:45 – 12:45 | Countermeasures and Best Practices
Presentation will cover: · Conducting regular security risk assessments, developing and enforcing comprehensive policies, educating staff, students, and other relevant parties about cybersecurity, implementing advanced security technologies (e.g., VM tool, firewalls, email gateways, antivirus, endpoint protection, etc.), preparing for and responding to cybersecurity incidents, and more.
