Dr Patrick Felle

Dr. Pat Felle of the School of Medicine in UCD started in the ICT industry in the 1970's working on ICL 1904A with Bank of Ireland.
He left to study Medicine in UCD, and after some years as Anatomist in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, he returned to UCD and established the Centre for Health Informatics in UCD.
He was central to the development of ICT based support for learning in Medicine in UCD, especially the early use of web-based technologies to supplement teaching and assessment. In the mid 1990's UCD School of Medicine were in the forefront of ICT supported learning among medical schools in Europe.
Dr. Felle was the Medicine project manager for the establishment of the Computer Aided Learning Facility in the School of Medicine in UCD. In 1995 with over 100 workstations this was the largest such facility in a medical school in these islands. At that time most European medical schools had no computing facilities to assist education.
Dr. Felle is Programme Coordinator of the Postgraduate Diploma and MSc in Healthcare informatics in UCD.
Dr. Felle has been an active member of the Healthcare Informatics Society of Ireland, serving on its executive for over ten years and is on the Education Committee of the International Medical Informatics Association.
