Founded in 1967, OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) is a non-profit, membership, computer library service and research organisation dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing the rate of rise of library costs. More than 72,000 libraries in 170 countries and territories around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalogue, lend and preserve library materials. OCLC Europe, Middle East and Africa has regional offices in Germany, France, the Netherlands and the UK.
The Division works with professionals and end users from academic and public libraries, the health sector, as well as government and cultural institutions. Researchers, students, faculty, scholars, professional librarians and other information seekers use OCLC services to obtain bibliographic, abstract and full-text information when and where they need it. OCLC and its member libraries cooperatively produce and maintain WorldCat (www.worldcat.org) - the OCLC Online Union Catalogue.
Prior to joining OCLC Phil worked for a range of other organisations who supplied products and services to libraries. These include Blackwell’s, Nielsen BookData and SIrsiDynix.
