Much more is known about how to make a real IPv6 deployment since HEAnet last ran an IPv6 workshop at its conference. Different technologies have become available, old ones are deprecated or discouraged, and there are now solutions to problems we once did not know existed.
And IPv4 addresses have run out; by the time of the conference, there may well be no way to get new IPv4 addresses in the European region.
This talk will cover how things have changed in making an IPv6 deployment -
what we now know that we didn't know before about transition mechanisms, the results of HEAnet's own work in this department, our plans for connecting clients who do not have their own IPv4 addresses, and what that means for existing customers who must communicate with them.
