Dr Sandra Collins
Director, DRI
Dr. Sandra Collins is the Director of the Digital Repository of Ireland, based in the Royal Irish Academy. She and the DRI team are responsible for the successful establishment and adoption of this €5.2M national e-infrastructure.
She is a member of the ALLEA International E-Humanities Task Force (led by Vice-President of the European Commission Neelie Kroes), is a member of the National Consultation Panel for Cultural Heritage and Global Change, is the Irish national representative in the EU Commission member state
Future Internet Forum (FIF), is a thematic working group member for the National Research Prioritisation Exercise, and a task leader in the European DARIAH project.
Previous positions include Scientific Programme Manager in Science Foundation Ireland (national research funding agency), with responsibility for one of SFI's two flagship industry-facing collaborative research centres programmes with total investment of over €150M.
She worked in Ericsson (telecommunications industry) for ten years; in roles including Ericsson Research (Corporate and Ireland), EU Research Project Leader (Celtic Eureka Cluster, €4.2M project “Madeira”), 3GPP Standardisation and Software Development, with 5 multiple jurisdiction patents filed.
Prior to this she held an appointment as lecturer in the School of Mathematical Sciences in Dublin City University. She received her PhD in 1996 in the area of nonlinear resonant acoustic oscillations (applied mathematics).
